WRITER'S
GUIDELINES
Revised May 2006
The Italian Tribune will accept
freelance submissions for publication consideration. Most topics of
general interest to Italian American readers will be considered.
However, query letters or emails are appreciated. (No phone calls,
please.) Queries will be responded to in three to four weeks.
Submissions will be responded to in six to eight weeks. Publication
usually occurs within eight weeks of acceptance.
While there is no monetary compensation for
articles to be published in our newspaper, the following is provided to
each author: a complimentary one-year subscription to the Italian
Tribune; two author’s copies of the issue in which the article
appeared; and a by-line. A tag bio paragraph can also be inserted, if
provided.
Article specifications (length, format,
topic, etc.) will be discussed on a case-by-case basis with the author.
Most articles should be sent via a Microsoft Word attachment if
possible. Photos should be sent as JPEG or TIF, 300 dpi, 5 in. by 7 in.
or smaller. (Photos are accepted under same conditions as articles.)
Articles and photos will not be returned unless a request for return is
accompanied by a SASE envelope.
Topics of particular interest to us are
articles on specific foods, articles on specific places and attractions
of interest to the Italian American community (Italian cities and
regions, museums, tourist attractions, etc.), articles about Italian
Americans in prominent positions (college president, corporate CEO,
etc), articles about Italian American festivals and traditions. The list
of possible topics is endless, but so too is the list of topics we’ve
already written about, so a query letter is appreciated.
We do not print poetry or fiction. We also
do not print the typical nostalgia-type story that has been done to
death (for example, “My Grandma’s Meatballs” or “My Father
Struggled as an Immigrant”). These stories, while an important part of
Italian American history, have been told in some form over and over.
Articles must be of interest to the Italian American community as a
whole.
Query letters and/or submissions should be sent to:
