Drone’s View of Ghost Town

While flying over the region of Liguria, a drone just happened to capture a bird’s eye view of the ancient town of Balestrino, a ghost town abandoned more than 60 years ago due to earthquakes. Balestrino, 100 miles south east of Genoa, features a picturesque castle and is considered to be the most famous abandoned location in Italy.

The town dates back to 11th century. At the end of the 19th century, a number of earthquakes caused severe damage to the town’s infrastructure. The remaining population moved out in 1953 and a new town with the same name was built one mile away.
