Fashion Houses Back Restoration of Milan’s Duomo
Twenty-four fashion houses including Armani, Cucinelli, Corneliani, Etro, Ferragamo, Genny, Gucci, Krizia, Missoni, Moncler, Prada, Pucci, Cavalli, Tod’s and Trussardi are backing the latest initiative to help restore Milan’s iconic Duomo cathedral. The design houses will put creations up for auction at Milan’s Palazzo Reale on April 19 to back Fashion Helps the Duomo. Ten of the designs, decorated with Tiffany & Co. jewels, will be shown beginning April 14 in the Grande Museo del Duomo. The full list of the fashion houses taking part is: Armani, Cucinelli, Cividini, Corneliani, Costume National, Etro, Ferragamo, Genny, Gucci, Isaia, Krizia, Loriblu, Martino Midali, Missoni, Moncler, Moreschi, OTB Diesel, Prada, Pucci, Cavalli, Tod’s, Trussardi, Vicini and Westwood.
Conservation of the Duomo is an ongoing activity that requires continuous work on the building. The very long construction period, protracted over several centuries, meant that maintenance was a problem from the earliest stages.
