Italy Leads Global Wine Market Thanks to U.S.
Italy became both the biggest exporter and the largest producer of wine in the world in 2015. One out five bottles of wine that are exported are produced in Italy. This represents over $5 billion of exports for the nation. The number one consumer of Italian wine is the United States, which imported $1.4 billion worth of wine in 2015. The next biggest markets for Italian wine are Germany and the United Kingdom.
In October, the International Organization of Wine (OIV) brought tears to the eyes of the French by announcing that Italy had overtaken France to become the largest producer of wine.
