Publisher’s Tour 2016: Puglia

A Stay at Villa San Martino

The welcoming atmosphere that permeates Martina France was brought to an even higher level when the travelers arrived at their hotel. In the finest Apulian hotel tradition, the 5-Star luxury hotel, Villa San Martino is situated just outside the historic center of the town. Not only is the Villa elegant, but its surroundings offer a peaceful park-like setting, providing glorious views over the Itria Valley. Our stay truly reinforced the old-world charm of Apulia. The boutique hotel is a far different experience than we have had at the large grand hotels of our stays in Italy. The focus of Villa San Martino is to provide the finest service possible to its guests and with just 21 rooms and suites in two separate buildings, the accommodations and stay was truly memorable. Our rooms were not only spacious, but, decorated with antique furnishings. An unhurried calm descended over the group after our journey from Naples. The rooms are extremely comfortable – with marble in the baths and parquet floors beneath our feet, it felt as though we were staying in the guest suite of a congenial host, rather than in a hotel. Uncrowded, tranquil and beautiful, one could spend hours simply sitting by its pool and enjoying the fragrances of the flowers and herb garden.
If relaxation is what you are really after, the Oasis Spa with the Villa has body treatments, massage and facials. The wonderfully equipped facility also has a sauna, Turkish bath, whirlpool and fitness room.

Within the Villa is Duca’s Restaurant, featuring a selection of dishes inspired by the region's renowned gastronomic tradition and prepared by the restaurant’s talented chef. The wait staff is especially helpful and special requests by guests were handled cheerfully. The flavors and aromas of Puglia can be enjoyed al fresco on the restaurant's magnificent terraces overlooking the swimming-pool and garden. As enjoyable as the breakfast buffet was - brimming with delicious local specialties, the restaurant provided a splendid venue for candlelight dining and enjoying delicious Apulian cuisine.
Adjacent to the Restaurant is Duca’s Bar and Tavern, relaxing spaces to have a drink, enjoy a wine tasting or just to play a round or two of billiards.
When you travel to the Martina Franca area, you will find that there is no better place to stay than at Villa San Martino.
